e-Invoice Tax Disclosures 2026: Why Voluntary Declarations Are Climbing

In February 2026, HASiL reported 38,906 taxpayers had voluntarily declared RM3.5 billion in previously unreported income following e-Invoice data-matching. By 20 June 2026, that number had climbed to 52,540 taxpayers declaring RM4.07 billion — with RM1.009 billion in tax recovered. In four months, voluntary disclosures rose 35%.

The Numbers

Metric Feb 2026 Jun 2026
Taxpayers declaring voluntarily 38,906 52,540 (+35.0%)
Income declared RM3.5 billion RM4.07 billion (+16.3%)
Tax recovered Not stated RM1.009 billion

What’s Driving It

Our read: HASiL has not published a breakdown of the cause. Two factors are consistent with what we’re seeing in client correspondence — a wider round of nudge letters going out since February, and taxpayers responding faster once they understand the data behind the letter is no longer inference from assets, but direct transaction records. Neither is confirmed by HASiL; both are plausible given the scale of the increase.

Why This Matters Now

The mechanics behind this data-matching — the RM10,000 individual e-Invoice threshold, which phases are already fully enforced, and what becomes visible to LHDN — we’ve covered in detail in e-Invoice and the LHDN Means Test. If you haven’t checked your own exposure against the five most common triggers, see 5 Red Flags LHDN Will See From Your e-Invoice Data.

What’s changed since those pieces is scale, not mechanics. The system is catching more taxpayers, faster, than it was four months ago.

What to Do

Reconcile your MyInvois submission log against your last filed return before the next reporting cycle, not after a letter arrives. If a nudge letter has already arrived, voluntary correction at this stage carries materially lower penalty exposure than waiting for a formal audit notice.

KS Chia’s Recommendation: At KS Chia & Associates, we help clients run a targeted e-Invoice Reconciliation & Tax Risk Review that maps MyInvois data against their accounts and flags exposure early. This is far more effective than reacting to a letter.
